Pastor Jim
Scallions, Director of the Sioux City Gospel Mission, is signing a
check for the last payment on the Women and Children’s Shelter.
Mrs. Patsy Scallions, looking on, is Director of the Shelter, which
opened in May of 1999. Since that time, 2305 different women and
children have been ministered to, and many have come to Christ. Due
to several bequests and the generosity of some special donations by
a number of Siouxland people, the mortgage was retired in five
years. Just two years ago, a letter was sent out to our supporters
for a special donation to help pay the mortgage on the Shelter. At
that time, we had approximately $203,000 left on the mortgage.
During this time, over $500,000 has been donated to make this
happen. The Sioux City Gospel Mission’s Board of Directors and
staff wish to thank all of you who helped make this day possible.
The amount of interest saved by this payoff will help many homeless
of Siouxland.
Rev. Jim
Scallions and Patsy Scallions want to remind our supporters that the
work goes on, and our daily needs are great. We have to have a
staff person on duty 24 hours a day seven days a week. There are
numerous tasks that have to be performed each day to make the work
run smoothly. Recently, in less than a week, four trips to the
emergency room took place. The women have to be assisted in finding
housing, and seeing that they get the medical help that is
available. Our dental clinic will open once a month for the next
five months. We are seeing an increase in the number of women
coming to the Shelter with mental problems. Much prayer is needed in
our behalf for the staff and clients.
“The Lord is
good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and He knoweth them that
trust in Him”. Nahum 1:7
