Volunteer/Support

There are many ways to volunteer at the Mission. Perhaps the best way, is to identify a time to come and help in our thrift store or to help serve a meal. In both instances, you have the chance to see our clients face to face. But more than that, we hope you will take time to have a tour of our facilities. Tours are our best teaching tool to demonstrate all that goes on at the Mission.

Here are just a few things you can learn when you take a tour:

  • Meals are provided to the general public as well as to our residents.
  • We are not a United Way agency, nor do we take government funding; our funding is strictly through the benevolence of our supporting friends, churches, and businesses.
  • All of our services come at no cost.
  • Our food budget is about $35,000 annually because much of our food is donated (for example, we recently were offered 12 pallets of meat from a local merchant).
  • Some stories of success and blessings

How can you help?

  • Become a volunteer
    • Help serve meals
    • Perform clerical tasks
    • Help to mentor a person in need
  • Donate household items to our thrift store
  • Donate food items to our kitchen and pantry
  • Prayerfully consider a pledge to our capital campaign
  • Donate regularly to our general fund

Special Needs:

As each holiday season unfolds, several items are worth mentioning. First, the Gospel Mission uses holiday time to kick off our food drive. Over 88,000 canned goods are distributed through our food pantry alone and many more are used in our kitchen. We invite churches, businesses, families and individuals to participate in our food drive.

Our food drive continues in March and April as we partner with Alan Feinstein in his endeavor to help the homeless and hungry by distributing $1 million to agencies directly supporting that venture.  Thus each donation of food and each financial gift during this period increases the amount of our share from his undertaking.

Additionally, in our November Friends in Need meeting we attempt to provide meat items to give away along with the canned good items we provide after our Gospel Service. Then, in December, following the Gospel Service, we make available more meat items, plus, we attempt to provide gifts for our participants and their children.

Donations of such items are especially welcome as we share God’s love through such giving, much as He shows His Love through the gift of His Son!
